Tradition is a key aspect of the atmosphere of Russell County High School; we stand for the fight song and lead chants that have been around since our school’s founding. No matter if it is a normal day at RCHS or if we are in the heat of homecoming week, our spirit is seen all year long. One person who has been around to help carry on the traditions for so many years has been Larry “Flash” Wilson. He has been an avid supporter and help to our sports teams for countless decades. Flash is seen at almost every home basketball, baseball, and football game cheering on the Lakers and being a helping hand to the coaching staff. His hard work and dedication has truly made him a Russell County legend.
When in discussion about names for the school’s new mascot every person had one name on their mind: Larry Wilson. The vote to name our new mascot after him was unanimous.
At the school’s Winter Sports pep rally this Tuesday, November 28th, the new mascot was unveiled to the student body, Larry the Laker.
