Most of our mighty Laker Spring Sports were back in action this past week.
The Laker Boys Tennis team defeated the Adair County Indians on Monday. Lucas McFall and Jay Bailey both won their sets 8-0. Braden Coe also won his set 8-1. In doubles, Marcus Allen and Max Lawson won their set 8-0 and Nathan McQueary and Nathan Garland won their set 8-0. On the girls side for Russell Co, the Lady Laker Tennis team defeated Adair County as well. Baylee Hart won her match 6-0, 6-0, and Abby Grant won 8-3. In doubles, Sarah Loy and Abigail Loy won 8-6.
The Laker Boys Tennis team defeated Pulaski County on Tuesday by an overall match score of 3-2, improving the boys to 4-1 on the year. Jay Bailey won his singles match 6-3. In doubles Marcus Allen and Max Lawson won 6-4. Nathan McQueary and Nathan Garland won 6-2. Jaxon Popplewell and Caleb Howard also won 6-0. On the girls side, the Lady Lakers fell to Pulaski by an overall match score of 0-5.
Th Laker Baseball team continued their District play over the past week. On the 16th, The Lakers traveled to Cumberland County to face the Cumberland County Panthers for their first District game of the week. The Lakers defeated the Panthers 13-2, ending the game with a mercy rule in the 6th Inning.
The Lakers then traveled to Clinton County on the 18th to face the Clinton County Bulldogs for their second district game of the week. The Lakers defeated the Bulldogs with a score of 8-0. The Laker Baseball team record improved to 11-4, with a district record of 3-0.
The Lady Laker Softball team had a dominating week, ending 2 games with a mercy rule in District play. On the 16th, the Softball team traveled to Cumberland County to face off against the Lady Panthers for their first district game of the week. The Lady Lakers defeated the Lady Panthers with a mercy rule in the 6th inning, with a score of 13-1.
On the 18th, the Lady Laker Softball team traveled to Clinton County to face the Lady Bulldogs for their second district game of the week. The Lady Lakers defeated the Lady Bulldogs with a mercy rule in the 5th inning, with a score of 11-1.
