Yesterday afternoon (Sunday 3/1) the Lady Lakers defeated the Lady Scotties of Glasgow High 40-36 in the opening game of the Girls 4th Region Basketball Tournament EA Diddle Arena in Bowling Green.
The Lady Lakers struggled early, scoring only 9 points in the first half. But, things finally got going for the team in the second half. The Lady Lakers rallied from down 10 with 7:10 left in the game to take their first lead at 0:24 remaining in the game. The Lady Lakers then pulled-ahead to win with a final score of 40-36.
The leading scorers for the Lady Lakers included a double-double from Star Marcum with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Shiaynn Elkins and Sophie Shearer added 8 points each for the Lady Lakers.
For the next round (semifinal) of the 4th Region Tournament, the Lady Lakers will head back to Diddle Arena this Friday (3/6 at 6:00 pm) to face the Lady Purples of Bowling Green. On February 20th the Lady Lakers defeated the Lady Purples at RCHS 43-42 in a thriller.
Pre-Sales for semifinal tickets will go on Sale Wednesday, March 4th from 8 am – 2 pm. During those hours the tickets will be sold in the front office at the High School (and in the front lobby during lunch hours). Tickets will be $6 each until the first 300 sell out. Tickets will be $8 at the gate.
This will be a very important game for the Lady Lakers and we need everyone to come out this Friday at 6:00 pm to support these girls and Coach Brett Blankenship against Bowling Green!
