Last Week In Laker Sports – March 9th

Hey Laker fans!  We have had another busy week in sports.  The Girls Basketball team played two games at the 4th Region Tournament, we have two girls selected to the All-Region team, and the Baseball and Softball teams will start-up their scrimmages later this week.

Last Sunday the Lady Laker Basketball team faced Glasgow in the first round of the 4th Region Tournament.  The Lady Lakers came away with a comeback victory, 40-36. Next, they went on to face the top-ranked Lady Purples of Bowling Green in the Semi-Finals on Friday.  The Lady Lakers struggled early but tried to rally, ultimately losing 47-29 to end their season.

For the season, the Lady Lakers were the Smoky Mountain Tournament Champs, 16th District Champions, and made it to the Regional Semi-Final game.  The Lady Lakers final record was 25-8 on the year with first year head coach (and Region 4 Coach of the Year) Brett Blankenship.  We would like to congratulate the Lady Lakers on another great year of basketball.

The Lady Laker Basketball team had two players selected to the All-Region Tournament Team:  Star Marcum and Juliah Bault. This team is comprised of players who played outstanding basketball during the Regional Tournament.  This is a big honor and we would like to congratulate Star Marcum and Juliah Bault on this accomplishment!

It’s time for Spring Sports!  The Baseball and Softball teams will have some scrimmages this week. On Thursday, the Baseball team will host Taylor County at Home, while the Lady Laker Softball team on Thursday will host the Scotties of Glasgow.  Then on Saturday, the Softball team will host the Lady Raiders of Warren East.

During Softball, Baseball, Tennis, and Track season you can check back here for updates in this “Last Week in Laker Sports” section.
